Andew Miller, Dellin Betances, Aroldis Chapman. Think about it.
Sure, while we don't necessarily need a closer because we have guys like Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances, the fascination with the Winter Meetings just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it?
If you live under a rock, you don't realize that David Robertson is now a White Sock. Read DROB DARTS FOR CHI-TOWN! It's all there. When you examine the way this all went down, the Yankees literally let DRob walk, they gained lefty Andrew Miller and saved $10 million on the whole thing. Some would suggest they could use that dough for Chase Headley, or even throw that money in the pot for a starter like Max Scherzer. I would suggest maybe we could use it on another closer. What do you think?
The word on the street is that the Reds are reportedly listening to offers for Aroldis Chapman. If the Yankees like Chapman, they'd need to negotiate who to give up, and what type of money they could have to cover the remaining salary. But they better move quickly, if they're interested at all. The Marlins may actually be a perfect fit for Chapman. MLB.com says:
"...the Marlins should consider building a super bullpen. If they are leaning that way, Aroldis Chapman would be a logical option.
We don’t know if the Marlins are thinking this way, but what is clear is the Reds are open to trading Chapman, their fireball-throwing lefty closer."
The Yankees look like they are interested in building a strong bullpen too. Chapman could be a nice fit. Don't forget though, the Yanks have also checked in on the Marlins for Steve Cishek or the Braves Craig Kimbrel. No idea what the latest on that is.
Now that Robertson is gone... it would be smart to try and replace him, or at least think about bringing up one of the kids and molding them. I'm not sure what the Yanks are doing... it's been an unusual off-season, but one thing is clear to me; The Yankees didn't care much if DRob came back. And so, now we move on.
Life goes on.
