Don't know what to make of this, but it's worth reporting because many Yankee fans would like to see James Shields in pinstripes and who knows if that would even happen. Anyway, here it goes...
According to Ken Rosenthal, the Arizona Diamondbacks appear to be one of the teams most likely to land the large right hander, but the price may not be what you think:
Sources: #DBacks in mix for Shields, a strong indication that his market is not at $100M; AZ is not willing to spend for him at that level.

Remember, indications were just a few short weeks ago was that James Shields had a $110 million contract "in hand" by a mystery team. That mystery team rumor disappeared, but we received a bit of information here that that mystery team could have been the Detroit Tigers. The source indicated that they were "setting themselves up" if Max Scherzer took a walk. Read RUMOR: TIGERS MADE THAT $110 MILLION OFFER TO SHIELDS? Nothing further came of it, and that's fine, it's a rumor and we felt that nugget worth reporting.
But whatever the case, it appears the Shields market is starting to move. Gotta wonder if the Yankees should make a last minute push for this guy or if they should stick with what they already have. We shall see...
